Acting Aphasia

This project is a collaboration with the Speech and Language Department in Trinity College and with 5 persons who suffer from aphasia in order to explore ways in which people with this condition can engage with and participate in the making of a theatrical performance.

Aphasia is an acquired communication disability most commonly caused by stroke. Approximately 8,000 people in Ireland survive a stroke each year, and a third of those will have aphasia. Aphasia impacts on individuals’ opportunities to participate in society, and the low levels of public awareness of this disability further exacerbate the potential social isolation experienced.
